What Do You Say, Jesus
Christ?
Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. And early in the morning
he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat
down, and taught them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a
woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say
unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now
Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest
thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But
Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he
heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and
said unto them,
He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a
stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And
they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one
by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left
alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up
himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are
those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord.
And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
John 8:1-11
A woman was
caught in the middle of the very act of adultery. The act was evil and it
violated one of the principal laws of God in the Ten Commandment. The act was a
moral abomination unto self and God abhorred it because it violated the covenant
of marriage that God instituted begin from the first man and woman on earth.
The people that
caught her in the despicable act did not provide solution to her problem. They
did not counsel her that what she was doing was morally wrong and spiritually
sinful. They did not endeavor to explain the spiritual consequences to her but
they were very swift and quick to judge her according to the law of Moses that
required that anyone caught in the act of adultery should be stoned to death.
The people were swift to execute judgment on the weak partner in the crime
without making any attempt to bring the other partner into judgment.
Again, man in
his own selfish thought would like to justify themselves in any act of
wickedness they want to execute. The woman could not bring her shame to her God
and requested Him to intervene. Her adversary thought they were smart, they have
the Law of Moses in their pocket and they forcibly dragged the woman before
Jesus Christ that once upon a time told them that, “I come not to destroy the
law but to fulfill it.” They read the charges they had against the woman and
they challenged Jesus Christ and asked, “What do you say? They expected Him to
either approve the judgment or disagree with their judgment thereby making His
disagreement to be interpreted as going against His own words.
The adversary of
the woman made a big mistake to think that they had had Jesus Christ where they
wanted Him and to think that He had no say to the hopeless situation of this
woman. At every situation in the life of mankind, Jesus Christ is always has
something to say. Perhaps you wonder why? “In the beginning was the Word, and
the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with
God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that
was made… And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his
glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and
truth.) (John 1:1-3, 14)
Jesus Christ is the Word of God that was with God at the beginning of creation.
He was the Word that became flesh and dwell with man. “For by him were all
thing created, that are in heaven, and that in earth, visible and invisible,
whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things
were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things and by him all
things consist. (Colossians 1:16-17) He is the Creator that created
everything in the whole universe. In Him all things consist. It means that there
is a piece of Jesus Christ in everything that exists on the surface of the
earth. This is powerful!
Jesus Christ
responded swiftly and positively too. He said, “He that is without sin among
you, let him first cast a stone at her.” And immediately he bent down writing on
the ground. The response of Jesus Christ was not saying that adultery was
lawful. He was equally not saying that adulterous sin should not be judged
according to the Law of Moses, but he was equivocally saying before you judge
anyone you must first of all look inward and examine yourself. No one was
certain what Jesus Christ was writing on the ground. He might be writing the Ten
Commandment on the ground, He might be listing out theirs sin on the ground, or
it may be a gesture expression to tell them I am not watching at you as you are
taking the decision. But one thing was certain, due to the nature of man, every
one of the adversary of the poor woman would be curious to know what Jesus
Christ was writing on the ground. They must have read something that convicted
them because none of the people responded to Jesus Christ verbally or by action.
One by one they all went away leaving the poor woman face to the ground in shame
before Jesus Christ.
Then Jesus
Christ asked the woman, “Where are your accusers?” “They have all gone!” She
said. Then Jesus Christ finally said to her, “Neither do I condemn you. Go and
sin no more!” At the cross road of your life, before you consent to and say
“yes” to the enemy take your case to Jesus Christ, wait for His final say. Do
not accept that you have failed if you have not heard from Jesus Christ. Do not
decide on suicide as cowardice solution to your perennial problems until you
hear what Jesus Christ would say. Do not agree with anyone that told you will
die of a certain disease if the Creator of Heaven and earth did not say so. In
fact, the Bible says, “With His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) If
your enemy say you have passed the age of breakthrough, tell them that your
Father in Heaven did not say so. Take your situation to Jesus Christ in your
prayer and behind the closed door, asked Him, “WHAT DO YOU SAY ABOUT MY
SITUATION?”
In fact, this is
what the Lord says concerning His servants, “No weapon that formed against
thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment
thou shalt condemn.” God did not say that weapons shall not be formed
against thee, but He assured His servants that are aware of this truth that
those weapons will not prosper. God did not say that tongue shall not rise
against you in judgment, but he told you what to do. He said, THOU SHALL CONDEMN
THE TONGUE. God was not talking about court judgment. When the enemy wished you
evil in their curse, reject and refute their wickedness and tell them that their
evil curse will not rest. “. . . an undeserved curse does not come to rest”
(Proverb 26:2) It includes the professional opinion of your doctors that
says you will soon pass out; it includes text book opinion of your gynecologist
that says you can never have children. (This is not suggesting that you refuse
medication and doctor advice.) It includes the judgment of your friend, any
member of your families that looked upon your deplorable situation and
pronounced their judgment upon you and say, “You are finished!” Tell them out
rightly that “I am not finished because I am still in the process of molding
and shaping in the hand of my Living God.” “A man’s belly shall be
satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall
he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue …”(Proverbs
18:20-21) Confess positively according to the word of God, the divine
blessing and deliverance of God into your situation and the merciful God will
confirm His word by given you victory.
