The Feast of
Salvation
Exodus12:1-14
Exodus 12:1-14 1. The Lord
said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt.
2. "This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your
year.
3. Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this
month each man is to take a lamb for his family one for each household.
4. If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with
their nearest neighbor, have taken into account the number of people there
are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with
what each person will eat.
5. The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you
may take them from the sheep or the goats. 6. Take care of them until
the fourteenth day of the month, when all the people of the community of
Israel must slaughter them at twilight. 7. Then they are to take some of
the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses
where they eat the lambs. 8. That same night they are to eat the meat
roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without
yeast. 9. Do not eat the meat raw or cooked in water, but roast it over
the fire - head, legs and inner parts. 10. Do not leave any of it till
morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it.
11. This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your
belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in
haste; it is the Lord's Passover.
12. On that same night I will pass through Egypt and stike down every
first born - both men and animals - and I will bring judgement on all the
gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. 13. The blood will be a sign for you
on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you.
No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt. 14. "This is a
day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate
it as a festival to the Lord - a lasting ordinance.
The day of the
flight of the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land was at hand. The
journey of 430 years had almost come to an end. The Israelites, the people
of God, were languishing in the hands of their taskmasters in Egypt. They
had been greatly afflicted. They groaned under the weight of affliction of
slavery. They cried to God and He remembered the covenant He had made with
Abraham. God appointed a powerful voice for them in the person of Moses, but
the voice was not recognized and not loud enough in the ears of Pharaoh.
Then the Lord Almighty God came down in His power and might and delivered
His people with stretched hands.
PREPARATION
God prepared
His children for the journey. He revealed to His children the glimpse of the
secret of salvation that had been kept from the wise and the wicked since
the beginning of ages.He handed down His plans to His faithful servants,
Moses and Aaron.
Take a year
old, male lamb without blemish or defect from the mother for each family on
the 10th day of the first month of Abib the year of Israel and
keep it until 14th
day of the month. The age of the lamb connoted innocence. Between 10th
and 14th
there are three days. The word “take,” in the verse means ‘separate’. It means
separate the choice lamb from its mother and consecrate it for the three
days. In those three days the lamb did not follow its mother to graze the
grass. If the lamb was suckling, it is taking from it in those three days.
If the lamb was mating before, it is removed from it within the days. It was
removed from the flock. It is like taking liberty from the lamb for godly
purposes. Think about how liberty was taken from the Lamb that was slain for
our sins before He was sacrificed on the Cross of Calvary. The lamb was
slaughtered in the twilight of the 14th day.
God made the
destructive plague to recognize two things in Egypt, the blood at the
door-post and the first born of Egyptians. First born is the first fruit of
a family. Biblically the first male child of a family is the heir of the
family.
We need to
understand the importance of first born in a family. When the first-born is
expected is a family that consists husband and wife, the couple will be
ready for the expected child. Their physical body has never gone through the
process of childbearing. As the physiological changes are taking place in
the mother the couple are learning each day with joy. Their relationship at
this time is the best. Closeness to each other unparalleled, spiritually,
they are one in the presence of God. Of course, where your treasure is
there goes your mind. The priceless treasure from God and more so, first of
its kind, the image of the couple, the heir of the family is on its way to
this world. When the baby comes the joy unspeakable will engulf the family.
Upon the arrival of the blessing of the womb in the family, we can recount
the investment on the child in terms of imparting wisdom, in terms of care,
in being there for the child and in the case of a Christian family, in
teaching the child in the wisdom of God.
The
destructive plague visited every house in Egypt as well as the house of
Israelites in the land of Goshen. You will now understand how heavily the
Egyptian lost and at the same time understand the importance of the
salvation in the camp of Israelites. The plague killed the entire first born
of Egyptians in judgment but the death passed over the first born of
Israelites and salvation became their portion because the lamb had been made
to die instead of them. The generation of the entire first born in Egypt,
their heirs were all cut off one day at the same time the entire first born
of Israelites were preserved. This is the Passover.
PRECISION OF THE PROCEDURE
The
slaughtered lamb must not be eaten raw. It must not be cooked in the pot
with water, milk or seasonings. It must be roasted on fire. It must be
eaten in haste and none of it must be preserved till morning. Please
note something important. No matter how patient you might have been in
cooking barbequed meat, there will still some blood trapped in the meat.
Remember the cup that Jesus Christ gave to the disciples?
It
must be eaten with bitter herbs. There are many edible sweet herbs that
the Israelites could have chosen from, but God chose the bitter herbs on
this occasion for a purpose. The bitter leaf represented the recognition
of their sinful nature, and the eating of the atoned roasted lamb
represented their identification with the righteousness of the Lord.
The
unleavened bread (bread without yeast) may not be tasteful bread. It
represented the body of the Lamb of God. That same night they are to
eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread
made without yeast. This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak
tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your
hand. Exodus 12:8, 11
God
commanded the Israelites to commemorate the day for generations to come,
and it must be celebrated as a festival to the Lord and as a lasting
ordinance.
Reflect on this:
The Passover meal is a meal of Salvation. It is a miniature version of the
ultimate sacrifice that took our Lord Jesus Christ to the Cross. It was the
revelation of the depth of the Lord’s love for His people. It was a blue
print of the plan of salvation for the people that can follow the precept of
God. On the other hand, it was also a revelation of the certainty of the
judgment of God against the children of disobedience. It saved the
Israelites from the bereavement of their first-born. It is a meal of
necessity. If you want death to pass over you, you have to follow the
commandments of God. The Israelites obeyed the Lord’s commandments. The
Passover was eaten on this day with readiness of mind and with preparation
to move out according to the divine directives of Almighty God. They were
not only saved from the bereavement of their first-born, God also saved them
from their taskmasters in Egypt.
THE PURPOSE
Exodus12:14-24Exodus 12:14-24
14. "This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you
shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord – a lasting ordinance.
15. For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast. On the first day
remove the yeast from you houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it
from the first day through the seventh must be cut off from Israel.
16. On the first day hold a sacred assembly, and another on the seventh day.
Do not work at all on these days, except to prepare food for everyone to eat
– that is all you may do.
17. "Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread, because it was on this very day
that I brought your divisions out of Egypt. Celebrate this day as a lasting
ordinance for the generations to come.
18. In the first month you are to eat bread made without yeast, from the
evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day.
19. For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses. And whoever eats
anything with yeast in it must be cut off from the community of Israel,
whether he is an alien or native-born.
20. Eat nothing made with yeast. Wherever you live, you must eat unleavened
bread."
21. The Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Go at once
and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb.
22. Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basing and put some
of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. No one of you
shall good out the door of his house until morning.
23. When the Lord goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will
see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that
doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and
strike you down.
24. Obey these instructions as a lasting ordinance for you and your
descendants.; Exodus 23:14-19Exodus 23:14-19
14. "Three times a year you are to celebrate a festival to me.
15. "Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days eat bread made
without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the
month of Abib, for in that month you came out of Egypt. "No one is to appear
before me empty handed.
16. "Celebrate the Feast of Harvest with the firstfruits of the crops you sow
in your field. "Celebrate the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year,
when you gather in your crops from the field.
17. "Three times a year all men are to appear before the Sovereign Lord.
18. "Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along anything containing
yeast. "The fat of my festival offerings must not be kept until morning.
19. "Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the Lord
your God. "Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk; Exodus 34:18-26Exodus 34:18-26
18. "Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days eat bread made
without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the
month of Abib, for in that month you came out of Egypt.
19. "The first offspring of every womb belongs to me, including all the first
born males of your livestock, whether from herd or flock.
20. Redeem all your first born sons. "No one is to appear before me exmpty-handed.
21. "Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even
during the plowing season and harvest you must rest.
22. "Celebrate the Feast of Weeks with the first fruits of the wheat harvest,
and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year.
23. Three time a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign Lord,
the God of Israel.
24. I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your territory, and no one
will covet your land when you go up three times each year to appear before
the Lord your God.
25. Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice from the Passover Feast remain until
morning.
26. "Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the Lord
your God. "Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk."; Deutronomy 16:1-16Deutronomy 16:1-16
1. Observe the month of Abib and celebrate the Passover of the Lord your God,
because in the month of Abib he brought you out of Egypt by night.
2. Sacrifice as the Passover to the Lord your God an animal from your flock or
herd at the place the Lord will choose as a dwelling for his Name.
3. Do not eat it with bread made with yeast, but for seven days eat unleavened
bread, the bread of affliction, because you left Egypt in haste – so that
all the days of your life you may remember the time of your departure from
Egypt.
4. Let no yeast be found in your possession in all your land for seven days.
Do not let any of the meat you sacrifice on the evening of the first day
remain until morning.
5. You must not sacrifice the Passover in any town the Lord your God gives
you.
6. Except in the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name. There you
must sacrifice the Passover in the evening, when the sun goes down, on the
anniversary of your departure from Egypt.7. Roast it and eat it at the place
the Lord your God will choose. Then in the morning return to your tents.
8. For six days eat unleavened bread and on the seventh day hold an assembly
to the Lord your God and do no work.
9. Count off seven weeks from the time you begin to put the sickle to the
standing grain.
10. Then celebrate the Feast of Weeks to the Lord your God by giving a
freewill offering in proportion to the blessings the Lord your God has given
you.
11. And rejoice before the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a
dwelling for his Name – you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and
maidservants, the Levites in your towns, and the aliens, the fatherless and
the widows living among you.
12. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt, and follow carefully these
decrees.
13. Celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days after you have gathered
the produce of your threshing floor and your winepress.
14. Be joyful at your Feast – you, your sons and daughters, your menservants
and maidservants, and the Levites, the aliens, the fatherless and the widows
who live in your towns.
15. For seven days celebrate the Feast to the Lord your God at the place the
Lord will choose. For the Lord your God will bless you in all your harvest
and in all the work of your hands, and your joy will be complete.
16. Three times a year all your men must appear before the Lord your God at
the place he will choose: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of
Weeks and the Feast of Tabernacles. No man should appear before the Lord
empty handed.
The Israelites
celebrate many feasts at different times of the year to commemorate
remarkable events that the people of God have gone through in life. Among
them are: The Passover Feast, The Pentecost Feast, The Feast of Dedication
(commemorate the reconstruction of the temple after its pollution by the
Syrians), The Purim Feast (commemorate the deliverance of Jews from Haman),
The Feast of Tabernacle, Feast of Trumpet and Day of Atonement. Out of these
feasts, God commanded them to celebrate three annually, namely: The
Passover, also known as The Feast of Unleavened Bread; The Pentecost, also
known as The Feast of Harvest or the Feast of the Weeks and lastly, the
feast of Tabernacle, also known as The Feast of Ingathering. Exodus 23:14-19Exodus 23:14-19
19. "Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the Lord
your God. "Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.
We have
earlier discussed the Passover in the first part of this study. We will
discuss the Pentecost Feast today because of its importance in the Christian
age. The feast began by counting off seven weeks from the first time the
people of God began the harvest of wheat grains. It is being celebrated on
the sixth of the third month of Sivan, (June in our calendar). The feast of
the Weeks was a festival to praise God for a bountiful harvest. It was also
the festival to commemorate the giving of the Law.
The Lord
commanded His people to bring freewill offering in proportion to the
blessing the Lord has given them. As an important part of the celebration,
God required them to rejoice before Him in His Temple (later built by King
Solomon) with their families, Levites, slave, orphans widows and strangers.
Deutronomy 16:9-12Deutronomy
16:9-12
12. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt, and follow carefully these
decrees.
The festival
had been drawing a large crowd of inhabitants of the world to Jerusalem to
trade in the abundance of the bumper harvest of wheat grains. It was a type
of universal worship in Israel around this time. This feast was maintained
from the time of Moses to the Christian age.
When God
commands His people to do something, He has plan of blessing to reward the
obedience of the commandments. God gave this commandment to prepare
Israelites for the Great Day of the Lord that God would give a free-will
offering of the Holy Spirit to the world. Many thousands years of Pentecost
feast was because of this great day of divine blessing in Israel. The word
of God through Prophet Joel says, "I will pour out my Spirit on all
people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream
dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and
women I will pour our my Spirit in those days." (Joel 2:28-29) If the
law must come out of Jerusalem, it must come out with power to the entire
world. ". . . The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from
Jerusalem" (Isaiah 2:2-3) That was why Jesus Christ told the
disciples to tarry in Jerusalem because they are the instruments that God
had prepared from the beginning of the world to accomplish the purpose of
the feast of Pentecost. Luke 24:49Luke 24:49
49. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city
until you have been clothed with power from on high. ; John 14:16, 26John 14:16, 26
16. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be
with you forever – the Spirit of truth.
26. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to
you. The book of Acts 2:1 says, "when the day of Pentecost was
fully come, . . ."
The word ‘fully’ was only used once in the Bible to describe Pentecost. When
the purpose of the feast of Pentecost was to take place, the stage of God
was set. Citizens from seventeen nations that represented the ‘world’
converged in Jerusalem on that day and the purpose of the Pentecost became
manifested. And suddenly, Holy Spirit from Heaven came with power and the
disciples of Jesus Christ were given utterances to speak different languages
so that the foreigners could hear and understand the law of God, that is,
the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You know the rest.
Reflect on this:
Contrary to the view of some, the Holy Spirit did not come down on the day of
Pentecost to grace the festival, but the presence of the Spirit of God is the
fulfillment of the purpose of the feast. Pentecost was one of the three
ordinances to the Jews. The feast is not an ordinance to the Christians.
However, it became a day of reference in the life of Christians all over the
world that the Holy Spirit came down with power and abide with men. Christians
are not mandated as the Israelites to observe the day of Pentecost because the
purposes of its celebrations from the time of Moses to the great day had been
fulfilled.
A
NEW COVENANT
Matthew 26:17-19, 26-29Matthew 26:17-19, 26-29
17. On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to
Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat
the Passover?”
18. He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher
says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with
my disciples at your house.”
19. So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
26. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and
gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
27. Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink
from it, all of you.
28. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the
forgiveness of sins.
29. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until
that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s kingdom.” ; Mark 14:12-16, 22-25Mark 14:12-16, 22-25
12. On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary
to sacrifice the Passover lamb, Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you
want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”
13. So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, “Go into the city, and a
man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him.
14. Say to the owner of the house he enters. ‘The Teacher asks: Where is my
guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’
15. He will show you a large upper room, furnished and ready. Make
preparations for us there.’
16. The disciples left, went into the city and found things just as Jesus had
told them. So they prepared the Passover.
22. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and
gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.”
23. Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all
drank from it.
24. “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many,” he said
to them.
25. “I tell you the truth, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine
until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God. ; Luke 22:7-20Luke 22:7-20
7. Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be
sacrificed.
8. Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat
the Passover.”
9. “Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked.
10. He replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will
meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters,
11. and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest
room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’
12. He will show you a large upper room, all furnished. Make preparations
there.”
13. They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared
the Passover.
14. When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table.
15. And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you
before I suffer.
16. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the
kingdom of God.”
17. After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it
among you.
18. For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the
kingdom of God comes.”
19. And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying,
“This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
20. in the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is
the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
Along the
line, in the last three years of Jesus Christ’s ministry on earth, His
disciples noted the importance of the Passover Feast. I would like to
mention that Passover is not a custom of the Jews, the celebration of the
Feast is an obedience to the law of God. Jesus Christ had been celebrating
the holy week with them. On the first day of the unleavened bread, they
asked Him where He would like to partake the feast. Jesus Christ gave them
directives on what to do.
In the
four-gospel books, the disciples did not relate their discipleship
experience with the previous Passover, hence the reason why we should pay a
careful attention to their account of the last Passover they had with Jesus
Christ. Series of spiritual events took place on that day that only the
spiritual minded people could perceive. The book of John gives a detailed
report of the Passover that the other books of the gospel did not reveal.
Jesus
got up from the Passover meal, put His garment aside, wrapped a towel
around his waist and began to wash the feet of the disciples. John 13:4, 12-15John 13:4, 12-15
4. so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped
a towel around his waist.
5. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his
disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
12. When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and
returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he
asked them.
13. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what
I am.
14.Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also
should wash one another’s feet.
15. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
Jesus
Christ revealed the traitor to the Beloved Disciple, Simon Peter by
dipping bread in the dish and gave it to Judas Iscariot. (John 13:23-27John 13:23-27
23.One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to
him.
24. Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, “Ask him which one
he means.”
25. Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, “Lord, who is it?”
26. Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of
bread when I have dipped it in the dish.” Then, dipping the piece of
bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon.
27. As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.)
Satan entered into Judas Iscariot and Jesus Christ spoke to Satan, ‘What
you are about to do, do quickly.’ But no one at the table understood why
Jesus Christ made the statement. Later, on the same night, Judas
Iscariot also revealed Jesus Christ to the Chief Priest, the Captain of
the Temple and the elders with an evil kiss. Luke 22:47-48Luke 22:47-48
47. While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was
called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus
to kiss him,
48. but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a
kiss?”
Jesus
Christ predicted Peter’s denial.John 13:34-38John 13:34-38
34. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so
you must love one another.
35. By this all men will know that you are my disciples if you love one
another.”
36. Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus replied,
“Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.”
37. Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my
life for you.”
38. Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? I
tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three
times., Luke 22:31-34Luke 22:31-34
31. “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat.
32. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And
when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.
33. But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to
death.”
34. Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today,
you will deny three times that you know me.”
“Then
came the day of unleaven bread when the passover must be killed”
Luke 22:7 KJV Reflect on the choice of word as the Holy Spirit directed
the writer of the book of Luke. The purpose of the Passover ordinance
that God gave to the Israelites in the land of Goshen in the night of
their departure from Egypt to the Promised Land came to an end when
Jesus Christ, the Ultimate Passover, the only Lamb of God instituted the
Lord’s Supper. Luke 22:19-20Luke
22:19-20
19. And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them,
saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
20. in the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup
is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. The
Lord’s Supper henceforth replaced the Passover ordinance when He said,
“Do this in remembrance of me.” If the old ordinance is not done with,
the new cannot be established. This is a good example of the “. . .
old has gone, the new has come.” II Corinthians 5:17
The
Lord’s Supper is the only feast that will sail through into eternity in
the kingdom of God. Mark 14:25Mark 14:25
25. “I tell you the truth, I will not drink again of the fruit of the
vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God.”; Matthew 26:29Matthew 26:29
29. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on
until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
Above
all it was during the first day of the Passover week that the Son of Man
was arrested for sins He did not commit. It marked the beginning of the
unbearable agony of Jesus Christ that led to his crucifixion
Passover is
not for everybody (Exodus 12:43-49Exodus 12:43-49
43. The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “These are the regulations for the
Passover: “No foreigner is to eat of it.
44. Any slave you have bought may eat of it after you have circumcised him,
45. but a temporary resident and hired worker may not eat of it.
46. “I must be eaten inside one house; take none of the meat outside the
house. Do break any of the bones.
47.The whole community of Israel must celebrate it.
48. “An alien living among you who wants to celebrate the Lord’s Passover must
have all the males in his household circumcised; then he may take part like
one born in the land. No uncircumcised male may eat of it.
49. The same law applies to the native born and to the alien living among
you.”), the same way the Lord Supper is not for everybody. You must
be identified with our Lord Jesus Christ in terms of your belief, confession
and repentance of your sins, accepting Him by faith as your Lord and Savior
with sincerity of heart and by walking daily in the newness of life in Him
before you can partake of the Lord’s Supper. I Corinthians 11:27-30I Corinthians 11:27-30
27. Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an
unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the
Lord.
28. A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of
the cup.
29. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord
eats and drinks judgment on himself.
30. That is why many among you are weak and sick and come under judgment.
As the Israelites should put away yeast during the feast of Passover; the
same way Children of God should put away all the besetting sins in order to
partake of the Lord’s Supper.
Reflect on this:
Celebrate only the righteous feast. If you do not strive hard to partake of
the solemn feast of the Lord’s Supper while you are alive, you will neither
partake of it with Him in the Kingdom of God. Celebration of Christmas and
Easter may be of good intentions but it is not commanded in the Bible and it
is not required for our salvation. These celebrations are the ordinances of
man. No doubt, Christmas Carol is beautiful, inspiring and solemn. Christmas
is the season of love and sharing. But outside the church, Christmas has
been turned to be the season when people get drunk, when atrocities are
freely committed among youth. In other parts of the world, some people
parade idol masquerades and other detestable sacrifices as part of the
celebration during the supposedly Christian holy season.
Lucifer is a
deceiver. When you expose the deceptive ‘n’ in Santa Claus that was
deliberately transposed and put the letter in its appropriate position at
the end of the word and rearrange the words, you will discover the “Callous
Satan” that had been deceptively buried in the celebration of Christmas does
not deserved to be worshipped. Children of God, you must wake up from your
slumber. Look beyond the immediate and strive to seek how to do the will of
God in truth and in spirit!
