17-Year Locust
A cicada is an
insect. It is often called the seventeen-year locust because it lives
underground as a larva for seventeen years before emerging as an adult to
live in the open. Imagine the toiling of this insect in those seventeen long
years. Perhaps in those long years of sojourning under the ground, in all
the four seasons of each year, in the freezing cold of the winter and in the
oven-hot weather of the summer. If the cicada could think, it must have been
consoling itself, "it will soon be over," "I will soon be in the open". "I
am tired of this hole, I am going home where I will be free to move around."
"I will fly, I will sing, I will have babies..." although being an insect,
it may not live to see its off springs emerging as an adult cicada from the
ground in the next seventeen years.
I watched a
documentary program on this insect on the television recently. I watched
with amazement the adult cicada. It was painfully interesting to note that
as these insects were emerging from the ground a squirrel was waiting to
welcome them into its mouth as part of its breakfast of that day. And their
generation was, thus, cut off from the land of the living. I said to myself,
"This is a disaster, How can one end a journey of seventeen years in the
hand of enemy," I wondered. Surprisingly too, not all the insects became a
meal to the squirrel. Some escaped the sharp eyes of the squirrel and
managed to fly away.
We shall soon
go home because Earth is our market and heaven is our home. Like a cicada,
no matter the number of years we spend here on Earth, we shall soon embark
on the journey to eternity. At the end of this journey on Earth, we shall be
welcomed home either by the open arms of God or the open mouth of the gates
of Hell, the home of the Big Squirrel called Satan. We have been told that
the wages of sin is death, and the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus
Christ. The onus is on you today, to either receive this FREE gift of
salvation through grace offered ONLY by our Lord Jesus Christ and be saved
or to receive a painful payback wage for your sins and be condemned. Think
today before it is too late; because the gift of God brings forth joy but
the wrath of God bring forth gnashing of teeth. For this purpose Jesus
Christ left His glory in Heaven and came to this earth to die on the cross
of Calvary, His precious blood became a cleansing detergent for our sin-sick
soul. Let this be whispered in to your ear, "Where do you want to spend your
eternity???"
